CHRISTMAS It’s a time for family, love and of course magic .Snow falling so gracefully from the sky. Malls filled with all those last minute shoppers. Checking their list twice. A feeling of happiness is always in the air at this time of year. Couples holding hands falling more in love. I love everything about Christmas; the beautiful bright lights, Christmas carols playing away; children smile after they’ve just seen Santa. My favourite memories of Christmas are the simplest ones. Going skating with the people I love, or watching the same Christmas movie with my best friends over and over again. Seeing my brothers face light up when he sees the gift him the gift he has been waiting for. Baking cookies with grandma, while grandpa puts up all the Christmas lights. Christmas is that special time of year to just be with each other. Im Candice Packer from the radio broadcasting program, merry Christmas from everyone at eighty eight –three CJIQ.
Thanksgiving Fall, trees changing, daylight fading, blowing carelessly in the air. Thanksgiving time is here. Time to be thankful for every blessing we’ve received. How we are so lucky to have each other. Family is forever. I wouldn’t want to be part of another. Grandma’s house is the only place to be for thanksgiving dinner. My mom and aunts cooking marvelous things for the amazing feast. Turkey, ham, stuffing, potato’s, apple pie, pumpkin pie all different types of pie really. My stomach is already rumbling. Laughing and sharing stories with each other in harmony. When I was younger my cousins and I would jump in the colourful leaves. The house is so pretty, filled with decorative fall things. It’s nice to spend time with family. Thankful is something we should really always be. It’s more than food, though a deeper meaning I think. Thanksgiving is a time to appreciate, share that we care, be with each other, always love one another, respect each other. Not just with family but with everybody.
| REMEMBERANCE DAY Soldiers are heroes. Canada is everything it is because of them. Glorious and f ree. Without their sacrifice and braveness, their ability to look fear in the eye day in and day out, our future would be uncertain; their sacrifice needs to be honoured. We owe it to them to remember. We can’t have a future without remembering the past. They fight not because they hate the person in front of them but because they love the people behind them so much. Remembering every man and woman who fought for this country. Who fought, who got hurt, or worse lost their life. The mothers who lost their courageous sons, far too young. The daughter that didn’t get to spend Christmas with her daddy because as she knows he’s saving the world. But still tears form in her little eyes. The grandfather who fought beside his best friend, and lost his best friend. A picture of a young man’s wife always tucked away in his pocket, keeping him safe. The Canadian soldier holding a wounded helpless child, promising them it’s going to be okay, they’ll keep fighting until they’re safe. Giving that child a feeling of hope. Soldiers can sleep that night knowing their children will never go through the pain these young unfortunate souls have faced. Children shouldn’t have to know fear but in our world some do. These people are not just doing this for us but for people everywhere in the world. In a perfect world it would not exist, this evil thing called war. Nobody would have to get hurt. But in this world it does, and without these heroic people, our country wouldn’t be everything that it is. Please take some time towith CJIQ and remember with me our heros this Remembrance Day.
