Hockey’s back

I’m not really a hockey girl or anything but I have to admit I’m glad the lock out is over. I missed going to sports bars on the weekends and seeing them filled with people, sharing the thrill for the game together. Without it, the start to the winter did'n't feel the same? Though I’m not normally one to regularly attend hockey night, I certainly can’t deny how excited I was watching that puck drop (were already making progress because I use to always call the puck a ball ha-ha) Saturday with some friends and of course nachos! (My favourite part of sports is the snacks for sure)  Who knows maybe Hockey and I will see a bit more of eachother .

LETS TALK ABOUT BOOKS

My way of escaping the cold is getting lost in a good book. Just the smell of a new book fills my mind with imagination and my heart with excitement. Some authors i wanted to talk about are:

Jodi Picoult open up a world of awareness with tough subjects. I recommend checking out the book House Rules, and of course the famous My Sisters Keeper. House rules tells a story about an Asperser's son life facing the law. It shows the point of view of members from his family, community and Jacob (the main character) himself. Its emotional and maybe can impact your views on some things. My Sisters Keeper is similar with a family struggle with an ill daughter/sister. Its sad, happy, and quite frankly hard to put down (just make sure you bring the tissues!

Nickolas Sparks is a genius to every hopeless romantic out there, his books are like real life fairy tales. I adore his book The Wedding, a story about a man’s surprise to renew wedding vows with his wife without her even knowing its happening. He also wrote books that turned into huge chick flicks like dear johh, a walk to remember, the last song and the notebook

Books can teach you about life as well, Tuesdays With Moore by Mitch Albom is a life changing true story about a boys professor who is passing away and teaching a last lesson to those left behind of what’s important in lif

William Shakespeare old English plays, Macbeth and A Midsummer's Night Dream are playful tales that include betray and even magic.

Sophie Kinsella’s fun girly books are funny and charming ; Confessions Of A Shopaholic was a fun light read for 6 b

HELPING OTHERS FEELS GOOD

Sometimes this world seems like a really big place. Sometimes you feel alone. Becoming a part of my community has really helped my self esteem, i guess i like the way helping other people feels and being part of something is comforting.  Whether it's just spending a few hours doing something or a regular weekly thing. Bake sales that make money for good causes are fun and beneficial. Helping out at the food bank makes you realize how many people need help.  Spending time in a nursing home, laughing with a senior as they share their memories with you is a humbling experience. Over the years I've had the honor of being part of Ronald McDonald House charity. It's a great thing keeping a family close, while a child is struggling and going through scary situations that even some adults have never experienced. It gives those children hope.  It provides the parents/families of sick children a  place to stay during these terrifying times. It's tragic that the world has problems and bad things like hunger exist. I've been a sponsor with world vision for a little over a year now. I sponsor Puis O, an 8 year old from Uganda. Providing money helps his family with medical bills, water, help building up the community and more.  Words can't explain the first time I seen a letter in the mail box from him. These are letters I know look forward to every month.  He talks about his family, how he loves math, playing and always thanking me. His birthday is the same day as me, October 4th and a life goal of mine is to volunteer with world vision and travel to different places helping people.  I also met the love of my life, Frankie (my cat ha-ha) when I adopted him from a Toronto rescue animal shelter. There's so many great people doing great things in the world, together we can make this a better place and feel good doing it too!
